Learn about Hoosier Feeder Company through the brothers behind the name, Chris and Greg Schombert.

What inspired you to start Hoosier Feeder Company?

Greg Schombert:
Wanting to build something our family could be proud of that could be handed down through generations. Work close to home and help the local community.

Can you name a person who has had a tremendous impact on you as a leader? Why?

Greg:
Norman Grant - Helen Oathout. Straight forward honesty. Be willing to work for what you want in life and don't expect it to be easy.

Chris Schombert:
Not a person but people, My dad (he could do anything), My father in law (stay positive even when things aren’t going your way), John Sharp (customer service), Frank Joseph (How to lead by example)

How do you encourage creative thinking within your company?

Greg:
Allow workers to provide input on machine concepts and business best practices. Do not limit options available to improve machine design based on cost or past manufacturing processes.

Chris:
Listen to all ideas from everyone and let people be a part of the solution to the issues.

What is the biggest challenge you as a leader face today?

Greg:
Finding skilled labor to fuel growth. Aging workforce.
Managing customer needs for onsite support while balancing family commitments of support team.

Chris:
Trying to keep up with the tremendous flow of information that goes through the company as well as handle the day to day operations of the company.

What does success mean to you?

Greg:
Making my children proud.

Chris:
Having a company that people want to work for and customers want to do business with.

What keeps you motivated to continually grow this company?

Greg:
Fear of letting people down and not keeping our commitments of providing best in class equipment with on time delivery

Chris:
I am just trying to keep my hands around what it is now.

If someone had told you 20 years ago that you would be here now what would you say?

Greg:
I am very humbled by the impact this company can have in the lives of our team and community. It is a testament to what can be accomplished if you are not afraid to dream big and be unwilling to accept failure as a final result.

Chris:
I would say yes. I always believed that good things would happen if you work hard enough.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Greg:
Wanting to do something positive for my family everyday

Chris:
Responsibility
